Plot Summary
At its heart, Om Shanti Om is a story about love, destiny, and revenge, wrapped in the glitz and glamour of the Hindi film music and dance world. The narrative revolves around Om Prakash Makhija (played by Shah Rukh Khan), a junior film artist in 1977 Mumbai, who dreams of becoming a successful movie star. Om is deeply in love with the beautiful and talented film actress Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone), who reciprocates his feelings. However, tragedy strikes when Shantipriya is murdered by a powerful film producer, Mukesh Mehra (Arjun Rampal), whose sinister plan is to pursue a relationship with her.
Following Shantipriya’s death, Om himself dies in an accident but is mysteriously reincarnated as Om Kapoor, a superstar actor in 2007. Unaware of his past life, the new Om lives a lavish lifestyle but is haunted by strange dreams of the 1970s. Encouraged by a sharp filmmaker, Pappu Master (Shreyas Talpade), Om embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind his past life and avenge Shantipriya’s murder. What follows is a spectacular climax filled with twists, cinematic nostalgia, humor, and emotional reunions, making the film a quintessential Bollywood masala entertainer.
