Directed by debutant writer-director Neeraj Dhingra, this movie offers a fun and contemporary look at love and friendship against the backdrop of social media. The film is widely appreciated for its charming portrayal of young relationships in the digital age, making it a relevant watch even today.

What is this movie about?

The story unfolds around three college friends—Karan, Saaju, and Tania—and their love entanglements facilitated through Facebook, hence the play on the word "friendship" in the film's title. Karan (played by Saqib Saleem) is a college student who creates a fake Facebook profile to approach Tania (Saba Azad), his love interest. However, he unintentionally gets involved in a web of misunderstandings when he starts communicating not only with Tania but also her best friend Saaju (Shraddha Kapoor), who herself is masquerading online.

The film brilliantly captures the confusion, misunderstandings, innocent flirtations, and emotional turmoil youngsters experience while navigating friendships and romantic relationships on social networking platforms. It cleverly comments on the blurred lines between virtual and real-life personas, the impulsiveness of youth, and the beauty of genuine emotions emerging amidst fake facades.

  • Saqib Saleem plays the protagonist Karan, a sincere yet mischievous college-goer. Saqib's charming screen presence effortlessly conveys Karan's awkwardness, sincerity, and growth throughout the film.
  • Saba Azad portrays Tania, the girl Karan is infatuated with. Saba brings a refreshing naturalness and comedic timing, making Tania a believable and relatable character.
  • Shraddha Kapoor essays Saaju, Tania's best friend, who unknowingly becomes the recipient of Karan's online messages. Shraddha’s performance adds depth and sympathy to the character caught up in this web of fake profiles.
  • Additional cast includes Naveen Kasturia as Yudi and Varun Sharma, who provide additional comic relief and support the youthful vibe of the movie.

  • "Baatein Karo" sung by Jermaine Jackson & Salim Merchant is a sweet, peppy number that encapsulates the excitement of young love.
  • "Ram Chahe Leela", sung by Udit Narayan & Shreya Ghoshal, is a vibrant and romantic track that beautifully portrays the playful chemistry between the lead characters.
  • "Rehne De" by Arijit Singh gives a soothing and emotional touch, balancing the lightheartedness with moments of seriousness relevant to relationships.
  • Other songs like "Dekhta Hai Zindagi" and "Tujhpe Hum" showcase a variety of moods from romantic to introspective, adding layers to the film's narrative.

The singers enlisted include some of Bollywood’s celebrated voices such as Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, and Salim Merchant, bringing impressive vocal depth and emotion to the soundtrack.
